Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

How Does EMDR Work?

You have probably heard the phrase ‘the body keeps the score'. When a disturbing event occurs, our brains can become “stuck” leaving you feeling trapped in the original pictures, sounds, thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations of that experience. EMDR is a clinically effective trauma treatment that uses guided eye movements to helps unlock the nervous system and allows your brain’s natural mechanism to reprocess the experience. Over time, painful memories lose their emotional charge. You’re not erasing the past—you’re taking away its power to hurt you in the present.

What Can EMDR Help With?

EMDR has been shown to be highly effective for:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Depression

  • Childhood abuse or neglect

  • Performance anxiety

  • Disturbing memories

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or haunted by your past, EMDR may help you find relief and clarity.

What to Expect in EMDR Sessions:

Your EMDR journey begins with a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship. Together, we’ll:

  1. Identify the target memories causing distress

  2. Prepare you with calming and grounding techniques

  3. Use bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to process the memory

  4. Replace negative beliefs with healthier, empowering ones

Each session moves at your pace. You stay in control and aware throughout the process.

Is EMDR Right for Me?

EMDR is suitable for many people, even those who have struggled to find results with other types of therapy. It’s non-invasive, does not require in-depth discussion of traumatic events, and has helped millions of people reclaim their lives.

If you’re ready to heal from the past and move forward with confidence, EMDR may be the path for you. Contact me today for a free 15 minute consultation.
